When a Medium Story is So Powerful, and You Can’t Deal With Your Emotions

Or is this post-menopause? I don’t know, but I just read an article that made me cry.

I read a lot of stories on Medium. Crime stories, aging stories, funny stories, and every now and then, I’ll read some political stuff, though I’m still not sure why I do that to myself.

I’m an Italian-Canadian living in Guatemala. What the hell do I care about US politics? But I do.

Anyway.

When I scroll through Medium, it’s generally the titles that catch my eye, but now and then, the subtitle gets me too (side note-write good subtitles). I’ll be honest, though — I don’t make it to the end of many stories; I gloss through some while others barely get read past the first or second paragraph.

I have the attention span of a 2-year-old.

I need to feel the story with every ounce of my being, or I won’t be able to get through it.

I have another confession. I’m not big on reading. I used to be. In my teens.

I read all the Stephen King novels and any other horror/fantasy paperback I could get my hands on.

Reading took me away from my abusive and shitty childhood and transported me to…
