I was following a story written by Fatim Hemraj about a woman with Alzheimers who was reported missing and eventually found dead.

So tragic!!! Now while I don’t fully know the whole story about this woman, her family or living arrangements, what I do know is this…

These tragedies could be prevented!

We were very fortunate, if you want to call it that, that my mom’s condition deteriorated so fast she completely skipped the wandering stage and went straight to the hospital and eventually the nursing home after numerous seizures at home. Small victory if you will.

But not all families are that ‘lucky’.

Many still care for their elderly parent or family member with Alzheimers at home and believe me when I tell you this is a hard fucking job. It’s like you’re raising a child again except this time that child is your parent who raised and took care of you all these years.

Now it’s your turn. And it’s weird and frustrating and difficult.

Really difficult.

You have to put your anger and confusion aside and step up to be the caregiver.
