First of all I gotta say thank you to Medium. Thank you for this amazing platform that allows writers, like me, to pour out our hearts and souls to eager readers, and pay us for it. That in itself, still blows my mind to this day.
So I’ve been plugging away here at Medium since March of 2018. I’ve written about my trip here many times. You can read these stories for more insight into my journey on Medium.
Why I Love My Medium Family ❤
I have a new family, whether they know it or not. I guess I could probably just list them as Medium friends but I think…
My 3 Figure Payout on Medium and Why I’m So Confused By It.
I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t come here just for shits and giggles and to write. Nope. I came here, like most other…
I actually kinda like writing about Medium. It helps me stay focused and I think it helps give other writers hope.
Anyway, this month my earnings have almost tripled. I’m beyond thrilled. Medium finally paid my rent. Yes!!! I’ve been working my ass off to hit this small goal for a few months now.
There’s an old saying that goes something like this:
“Do what you love and the money will follow.”
But I want you to read those words carefully (not the tequila and chocolate words).
Do what you love and the money will follow.
When you chase money you will be sorely disappointed. Chase your passion instead. I hear so many stories about how Medium is shit and the earnings suck and “I don’t understand why my earnings are so low” and many more like that.
I get that we have to do things to make a living. I’m not naive. But you have to do the things you love. I love writing. I love inspiring and entertaining people. I love pouring out my soul to people to let them know they aren’t alone in whatever shit situation they are in.
You can’t shit on a platform that is paying you. If that’s what you are doing, you’re on the wrong path. Did you forget your love for your writing? Did you also forget that at any given moment Medium could pull the plug?
My new friend George J. Ziogas made a comment in a group I belong to. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket (I now have a lot of baskets). Boom! Baskets burn. Baskets crumble. I found that out the hard way when Facebook pulled the wool over our eyes back in January of this year and fucked over all the business page owners.
That hurt. A lot! I was scrambling hardcore to make up the huge loss of monthly income I was getting from Facebook. But it taught me a valuable lesson.
Stop chasing money. Do what you love and the money will follow.
So I started focusing more on my why. Why am I doing this.
You need to know your why. Why are you writing? Why do you want to write? Why do you want to tell your stories? What’s your bigger why? Your burning desire? Your passion and purpose?
I hope it’s not just for money.
My why is to feed hungry bellies. Always has been, always will be. My passion and vision to eventually open up my own shelter/community type centre here in Guatemala is my why. The more I focus on that, the more I want to write. I’m not doing it for me, I’m doing it for them. That’s my why.
By having Medium pay my rent this month, I know that more of my other earnings can now go to buying more food! Yay!
Medium has given me more faith in my writing ability and reignited my desire to write and inspire. Medium has given me more faith in this platform. When I first started I had no clue. I get it now and am forever grateful.
Medium has given me a place to use my voice freely and help others. Medium has provided me with loyal and faithful readers who love me and my stuff. ❤ These readers, unbeknownst to them (well you know now), are helping me fulfill my purpose.
You, the person reading this right now, are also playing a role in helping me feed bellies. Bask in the amazement of that! By you supporting and engaging with this story or any other story of mine, we are able to get food to one more family. Bet you didn’t know that.
Please note this works if you are a paying member. When you pay for a membership, you are saving one child from malnutrition. $5 a month to save a child’s life. Can we say win win?
Medium validated the saying “do what you love and the money will follow”. We are writers here on Medium because we love what we do and Medium lets us do it with vulnerability.
If you don’t love and appreciate that then I don’t know what else to tell ya. Someone created and designed a platform for you to write on and they give you money.
So thank you Medium, and thank you to all you readers and fellow writers. From the bottom of my heart. ❤ Because of you, I not only get to pay my rent this month but I also get to feed more hungry bellies.
I love you ❤
Peace and Love
