I Tried to Wish You Guys a Happy 4th of July
But you were having none of it. My words were met with anger and hatred.
Tuesday was Canada Day. Canadians, as a whole, are a pretty happy and grateful bunch. We’re friendly, polite, etc. You get the point.
I belong to a Facebook group for the tiny Guatemalan town I live in. I am one of the admins, and a small job I’m now realizing can be frustrating and depressing.
Politics and religion are off-limits for conversation. I’m happy about that. I only talk about religion with my friends, and I never talk about politics.
It’s a community group for foreigners and locals to keep up with what’s going on around town — events, rentals, some items for purchase, etc. People looking for doctor recommendations, transportation, that kinda thing.
On Tuesday, I wished all the Canadians in the group a Happy Canada Day. The post was well received. Canadians were happy and replied with hearts and smiles and Canadian flags.
Yesterday was the 4th of July, so I thought, well, why not?
What a mistake that was!
Within 15 minutes, I had to delete some comments (they were rude and personal attacks on American members of the group, bullying, it was brutal) and turn off…
