People are exhausting

Who can remember visiting Grandma and walking into a kitchen that smelled like pure heaven? I do, I do.

Growing up Italian, we didn’t have the ‘normal’ chocolate chip cookies that most homes had. We had pastetes and canolos and cristolis and zippolis (I’m sure I spelled all those wrong, and my nonna is rolling in her grave).

Tons of eggs, a shit load of flour, and heavy on the sugar. Yum.

Okay, so maybe the cookies were slightly unhealthy, but we didn’t care back then. We wanted cookies, and Nonna was happy to oblige.

Mom used to work at a grocery store and never thought twice about stopping by the bakery department on her way out to buy us cookies, donuts, or other sugary treats.

Then this happened

As time went on, things changed. People changed. Allergies and intolerance happened. Inflammation and sickness happened. Or maybe all that was already there, but no one cared.

I’m sure someone has the answer to all that. I don’t.

Suddenly, there were peanut allergies. That rolled in hard. Then it was gluten and lactose, and then in stormed the vegans.
