Friendships Over 60 Are Weird

I find myself alone more often than not, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, to be honest.

When I hit 60, everything started to change. My body, my attitude, my likes and dislikes, I lost my filter, and I’m losing friends faster than I can blink.

The latter feels weird.

There was a time in my life when I practically begged for friends. I would do stupid things just to make friends, including sacrificing my self-worth. You may have done that, too.

Then, after years of being taken advantage of and mistreated, I finally woke up. Ok, I’ll be honest — I didn’t actually ‘wake up’ until after I turned 60. Does that make me ‘woke’? I have no idea.

Life in Canada

It’s important to note that my life in Canada was vastly different than my life here in Guatemala. My friends in Canada were all ‘work friends.’

I had no life outside of work simply because I could barely afford to do anything. I worked to pay bills, keep a roof over my head, and eat, and that’s about it.

There was little left at the end of each paycheque for socializing.
