Follow all these pieces of advice before you turn 50 and your life will be filled with magic, abundance, unicorns and……… wait a sec.
You don’t really think I have that many pieces of advice do you? I mean, I could probably come up with that many but honestly, who has time to read them anyway?
I sure as fuck don’t.
Now before I start, I’m not shitting on anyone who writes up “30 pieces of advice to your 30 year old self” or “25 things you should know before you turn 25”. I’ve actually read some of them and I think they’re great. Honest I do.
I think people need to read them. So many of us live with our heads up our asses we have no clue what’s going on around us or how to function properly in life without some ‘self help guru’ (that ones for you Jason) telling us what to do and how to do it.
Let’s get real.
In my 50 something years here I’ve learned a shit ton of things. I’ve fallen more times than I can count or care to admit. I hit rock bottom. I’ve been in and out of abusive relationships, declared bankruptcy twice, open and closed a business and then my recent adventure, packed up 2 suitcases and left my home country of Canada, alone, on a one way ticket to Guatemala, a country I knew nothing about before I landed.
So, ya, you could say I’ve had one helluva ride. I’ve lived, I’ve loved, I’ve learned and I’ve grown. Oh how I’ve grown.
Though I really don’t have 23,496 pieces of advice for you (I know you just sighed in relief) I do have some very valuable tidbits I want to share with you. I want you to read them as many times as you have to. I want to drive them home hard and I want them to sink in even harder.
Don’t be an asshole.
Ever. Don’t ever be mean to people. Mean people are ugly. The world doesn’t need ugly people. The world is in desperate need of kindness and love. When someone is mean to you, send them love and forgiveness and walk the fuck away. Don’t be mean back to them. Peace is always better than being right.
Don’t judge people either. That’s ugly too. We are all fighting battles no one knows about. Besides, you’re not perfect.
Do what makes you happy.
Always. Your happiness is more important than anything else in the whole wide world. If you’re not happy in your job, your city, your relationship, your whatever, do what it takes to find happiness in any of those and if you can’t, then think about moving on. Never stay anywhere or with anyone if you’re not happy. Ever.
What’s the point? We’re not here to be miserable.
Don’t take shit from anyone.
Do not EVER let anyone disrespect you or treat you like shit. I don’t gaf who they are, stop it immediately. You deserve respect. We all deserve respect. Don’t let anyone talk shit to you. Find your voice, stand up for yourself, walk away, say NO you don’t have the right to talk to me like this. Period.
We are not doormats to be walked and trampled on. Never forget that.
Face your fears. All of them.
Get out of your box. That thing you wanna do but you are too afraid to do it? Go do it. Make a plan to do it. Life is too short for regret. You don’t know when your number will be called. You wanna be sitting up in heaven with Aunt Betty complaining that you never did that ‘thing’ you always wanted to do? Hell no.
Fear will hold you captive if you let it. Face it, flick it and forge ahead.
Listen to your heart more.
You know those battles you got going on between your head and your heart all the time? Ya it’s time to tell your head to shut up, heart’s got this. Do what your heart tells you to do. My heart told me to leave Canada and go to Guatemala and it’s the best thing I have ever done in my whole life.
Your heart knows. Whatever your heart is telling you, that’s the fire in your soul. Feed it. Fan it. Follow it.
Use your voice more.
Stand up for what you believe in. If you see someone doing something wrong, stop them. Step in. Say ‘NO’ more. Set boundary lines and don’t let anyone cross them. Respect yourself more and learn to use your voice and make sure others hear it, understand it and respect it.
Don’t be a mouse. Be a lion. (but in a good fierce way)
Help people more often.
That homeless guy on the street corner would probably love a coffee. The old lady in apt 253 probably needs a hand with chores. The single mother from your work would probably love a day off to herself. I don’t care who what why or where, go help more people and DON’T ever expect anything in return. Do things out of kindness and love. Not for rewards or recognition.
The world is changed by your example, not your opinion.
This is your life right now. It’s not a fucking dress rehearsal. You don’t get a second chance.
Follow these 7 pieces of advice and watch your life change. Watch your world, and our world, explode with love, peace and joy.
Oh and one more, make sure to look both ways before crossing the street unlike me who gets yanked by her arm off the road to avoid danger 😝
I love you ❤
Peace and Love
