Don’t be sad for me. I’m happier than you. 😉

I used to always need a partner, a man, a companion. I hated being alone. Every bit of it. Before the age of 55, I can barely remember a time I didn’t have a partner. Male or female.

That’s a story for another time, though.

I always felt I needed someone to validate me, make me feel special, love me, take care of me — you know, all those things that girls who were unloved as a child need.

I was that girl. Until I wasn’t anymore. And that was when I hit 60. Crazy, right?

I was 60 years old when I finally realized I didn’t need a man. I wanted one. And there’s a big difference.

Now, I cringe at all those years of my life I wasted with Douchebag Dan and Jerk-off Jerry. Ah well, live and learn, right?

Anyway, the conversation comes up a lot:

“Aren’t you lonely?”

“Do you wish to have a companion/partner/boyfriend/husband/insert whatever pronoun you want here ____________?”

“It must be lonely living alone.”

“Aren’t you afraid of getting old/dying alone?”

You know, the usual topics.
